There are over 1.6 Million new blog posts, 500 Thousand new Photos, 100 Thousand new videos, and 15 Thousand new songs being released onto the Internet each day. This is what you compete against! The good news is that there is a potential audience of over 1 Billion people. What if you could somehow reach all the people out there who would be interested in your work? - Without effective marketing, nothing will happen:
If you want traffic to your site or people to view your work, you have to market it. Putting up a site or blog, doing the basics, and hoping that visitors will start rolling in is relying almost 100% on luck...and likely doomed to failure. Marketing we can traditionally do online is costly, and not very effective. For example, you can buy traffic from search-based ads, but at $2 (or more) per visit, a 50%+ bounce rate, and little interaction, your odds of making a return are low. Joburg fashion week is back!!!
Glamour and cutting-edge innovation will spice up the Jozi catwalks when South Africa’s most exciting designers showcase their Autumn/Winter 2008 ranges.
From the 3-8 March, a dynamic mix of established designers and up-and-coming new talent will afford fashionistas a tantalising glimpse of the hottest homegrown trends that will enhance Joburg’s image as a hotbed of edgy urban fashion inspiration.
Audiences can look forward to ravishing new designs by doyenne Marianne Fassler. Also on the menu are the elegant garments of David Tlale, the bold colours of Maya Prass, the cultural energy of Sun Godd’ess, the street-savvy yet feminine Stoned Cherrie, the tailored sophistication of Klûk CGdT, the ‘local jet-set aesthetic’ of Thula Sindi and the free-spirited creations of Fundudzi under creative director Craig Jacobs.
Fashion, Jozi style
This four-day fashion week will now take place entirely at the Sandton Convention Centre with the organisers having moved the opening day in Soweto to the Sandton Convention Centre as a result of concerns regarding traffic gridlock compounded by traffic light failures around the city. Said Evan Schiff, African Fashion International spokesperson: “The recent power cuts have made any movement in and around Joburg very challenging. We are concerned this may affect attendance at the Soweto collections and have therefore moved the shows to Sandton in consultation with the affected designers.”
Wednesday, 5 March, sees new-generation designers such as Frans Kies, Abigail Keats, Audrey Mokhari and Thembisile Mazibuko taking to the stage, followed by Siphakeme Ndlovu and MosewaMosa. Anchoring the evening will be Fassler, with Thesis and Machere hard on her heels.
On Thursday, 6 March, audiences can look forward to shows featuring Ifa Lethu and Karen Monk Klijnstra, followed by Viyella and after which Klûk CGdT and Sun Goddess will strut their stuff.
Mzansi Designers and Broken Storm open proceedings on Friday, 7 March, after which Prass, Jacobs and Tlale will set the catwalk alight with their respective shows.
Closing off Audi Joburg Fashion Week on Saturday, 8 March, will be Sindi, followed by JJ Schoeman. Stoned Cherrie gets the chance to dazzle at 8pm, with the Audi Collections Show bringing the event to a close in sexy style.
During a recent workshop, British fashion guru Avis Charles told local designers that most of the new ideas in the international fashion arena are inspired by Africa, and that the time is ripe for South African talent to make further inroads into the global fashion scene.
Audi Joburg Fashion Week promises to be an ideal platform for showcasing the best that South African designers have to offer. The event is operated by African Fashion International (AFI), which also runs Cape Town Fashion Week and the spring/summer Joburg Fashion Week.
