Blues, JAzz and Roots Festival 15th March'08

Get a little taste of entertainment at the inaugural Blues, Jazz and Roots Concert in conclusion of the first season of the Old Mutual Encounters Summer Concerts on the 15 March 2008.

The month of March continues to give way to yet another show. The Blues, Jazz and Roots concert is one of the many entertaining concerts South Africans will take pleasure in seeing. This event will take you back to the beginning of Jazz and Blues in South Africa, and if you are a novice then you will be getting a radiant overture to the life of its compositions. Held at Emmarentia Dam, Johannesburg Botanic Garden on the 15th of March as part of the Old Mutual Encounters Summer Concerts Series, the concept behind this event captures an array of new, modern and traditional takes on Jazz and Blues, with local acts ranging from Valiant and Ollie, Tidal Waves, Radio Kalahari Orkes, Robin Auld, Dan Patlansky, Syd Kitchen, Madala Kunene and Jim Neversink who will play host to the day.

To add to this occasion, Michelle Shocked, one of the most powerful musicians who has travelled across the globe to release more albums than any of her fellow musicians in her field, is heading back to South Africa. After two years, she brings back her own unique style and sense of originality within her artistry as a musician combining the right amount of soulfulness with just enough blues, rock ‘n roll and gospel music. Critics have assured her music as being playfully profound and that her most recent release ‘ToHeavenURide' was heavensent, at the same time elevating a sense of humour, irony and symmetry. Hers is music that overflows with jazz and blues roots, one can even hear a bit of the New Orleans brass influence in her music.

Tickets are already on sale at www.oppikoppi.co.za, www.ticketconnection.co.za, and all Mr Price stores and at the gate. Gates are open from 10am to 10pm.
