LETTA MBULU: CULANI NAMI




BIOGRAPHY

In an illustrious musical career of more than 40 years, Letta Mbulu has produced classics that have stood the test of time. She recorded her first album in 1967 titled Letta Mbulu sings through Capitol Records in the USA and hit songs such as There’s music in the air, Maru a pula, Not yet Uhuru. Theme songs of hit movies and great world acclaimed TV series such as Alex Hailey’s Roots and Steven Spielberg’s the colour purple followed. There is no doubt at all that she is one of South Africa and the world’s most acclaimed musician as she also performed with world acclaimed artist such as Miles Davies, Harry Belafonte, Thelonious Monk and many, many more

Now after several years, Letta Mbuli is releasing the long awaited new album titled Culani nami which consists of 10 great new tracks which are bound to quench the musical thirst of all her fans worldwide. The last Letta Mbulu album released four years ago was the highly successful compilation titled The best of letta Mbuli which has thus far sold over 55 000 units and is still going strong. With the new album it clear that she focuses mostly on love matters as evidenced by songs such as Nobody loves me like you, Akekho, That’s what love is for and Su’dlala ngami and also in the title song Culani nami, Letta is requesting her fans, fellow South Africans and the whole world to join and continue singing with her. Yes, it is definitely time to sing with the great lady of song, Letta Mbulu

It is an open secret that since Letta Mbulu’s return from abroad several years ago, her fans have always participated in singing all her songs at all the live performances throughout the country. Sometime during a performance she would stop singing and allow her audience to take over and sing until the end of the song……..Culani nami. One need not be a rocket scientist to notice that Letta Mbulu is adored and cherished by her fans all over the world. She definitely is a legend in her lifetime.

The release of this long awaited new album is like a blessing to all the fans who have throughout the years wondered whether their favourite artist will ever record and release a new album consisting of 10 great songs. The release of CULANI NAMI means the wait is now over
