NO MORE: Kwaito musician Ma-Willies

Makhubela dies at his home

Kwaito icon William Bongani Makhubela, also known as Ma-Willies, has died.

Makhubela, 38, drew his last breath at his Soweto home last night.

His manager Evo Dos Ramos said Ma-Willies had not been well recently and they had made plans for him to go into hospital today.

He said when he spoke to the rough-throated singer yesterday they agreed that he would go into hospital.

“We do not know what the cause is but we suspected TB because he had the symptons,” he said.

“Base 2 Base would like to pass its condolences to his wife and children,” said Dos Ramos.

Makhubela had just finished recording his latest album, titled Shark is Moving with Base 2 Base Records when he fell sick.

Ma-Willies featured on the albums of Mahoota – Phula, Mandla Spikire, Jacarumba and Brown Dash.

In 1997 he was approached by Mdu Masilela, a popular producer who invited him to join his record label. That’s where his first album Intwenjani, and the name Ma-Willies was adopted.

Ma-Willies was famous for songs like Intwenjani, Gagu, Bomba o Wele Bicycle and Thula Mabota.

He released eight albums including Intwenjan, Liya Khuzikhehla, Hoezet, Ke Tswere Lotto and Kwaito Graduation.

Makhubela is survived by his wife and children.

Dos Ramos said his company would arrange a memorial service for him soon.

  • You’re advised to take LEAVE the Monday following the event due to unforeseen circumstances;
  • Again you also encouraged to book a CAMPING SITE for SLEEPING PURPOSES as you would have booked leave for the Monday cause P3 is just Madness
  • Perhaps you need to bring two sets of clothing, one for the afternoon ( Shorts, slops, picnic towels/blankets etc.), your evening gear will probably consist of a pair of Jeans, a top and something warm as the evening might get Chilly
  • The venue provides for adventure activities such as River rafting and the likes, you also advised to book in advance and the contact numbers are on the flyer. ( There’s provision for showers should you need to freshen up )

FYI: As a creator, there are 5 things you need to know about marketing your work online:

You spend time, energy and money creating. It's an important part of your life. Now it's time to get seen and heard... What if you could market each item you create to a potentially global audience? What if there was a system that allowed you to compete on a level playing field? What if you could earn money for your work, without consumers having to pay?
  1. The market is incredibly competitive:

There are over 1.6 Million new blog posts, 500 Thousand new Photos, 100 Thousand new videos, and 15 Thousand new songs being released onto the Internet each day. This is what you compete against! The good news is that there is a potential audience of over 1 Billion people. What if you could somehow reach all the people out there who would be interested in your work?

  2. Without effective marketing, nothing will happen:

If you want traffic to your site or people to view your work, you have to market it. Putting up a site or blog, doing the basics, and hoping that visitors will start rolling in is relying almost 100% on luck...and likely doomed to failure. Marketing we can traditionally do online is costly, and not very effective. For example, you can buy traffic from search-based ads, but at $2 (or more) per visit, a 50%+ bounce rate, and little interaction, your odds of making a return are low. What if there was a highly cost-effective marketing system available to you, one that really did work?

  3. People don't search for content; they discover it from friends:

Most of the music in our collections hasn't been played much on the radio; it's there because a friend recommended it. It's the same for photos and blogs. Very rarely is any great content found by search. Instead its' pushed to us from people we trust. That's why merely listing your work on a site or publishing your site on the Internet doesn't do enough: You have to market your work to the people who might like it, and encourage them to spread it further. What if your work could be sent out to your peers for review when it's first released? What if there was an easy way for them to share it with their friends and those further afield still?

  4. Consumers still don't typically pay for content:

Most consumers still expect songs, photos, blogs, and flash to be free, despite the effort put into producing them. Only a small fraction of the market pays for downloads. What if you could be part of a system that rewarded top creations without consumers having to pay?

  5. Buzzfuse offers a highly cost-effective marketing system that can help you market your work to a wider, global audience and pays you for performance:
Buzzfuse works by releasing each new item you produce to the market you choose (initially your friends and fans). We then measure the interaction (the buzz") around each item and use this to generate a score. Luck, for once, has little to do with it. High scoring items are recommended to friends of friends. Really high scoring items make the Daily Top 10, which is sent to all Buzzfuse users around the world.

Buzzfuse pays real money (premium subscribers only) based on the performance of each item. So a good creator might make money off several items each month - typically bringing in way more than search revenues over the same period, and in many cases more than they would have through paid downloads too. Of course, Buzzfuse work in conjunction with search revenues and will soon offer paid downloads, so there is only upside...

You can use Buzzfuse for free (Premium accounts offer earnings and other advantages).

Joburg fashion week is back!!!

Glamour and cutting-edge innovation will spice up the Jozi catwalks when South Africa’s most exciting designers showcase their Autumn/Winter 2008 ranges.

From the 3-8 March, a dynamic mix of established designers and up-and-coming new talent will afford fashionistas a tantalising glimpse of the hottest homegrown trends that will enhance Joburg’s image as a hotbed of edgy urban fashion inspiration.

Audiences can look forward to ravishing new designs by doyenne Marianne Fassler. Also on the menu are the elegant garments of David Tlale, the bold colours of Maya Prass, the cultural energy of Sun Godd’ess, the street-savvy yet feminine Stoned Cherrie, the tailored sophistication of Klûk CGdT, the ‘local jet-set aesthetic’ of Thula Sindi and the free-spirited creations of Fundudzi under creative director Craig Jacobs.

Fashion, Jozi style
This four-day fashion week will now take place entirely at the Sandton Convention Centre with the organisers having moved the opening day in Soweto to the Sandton Convention Centre as a result of concerns regarding traffic gridlock compounded by traffic light failures around the city. Said Evan Schiff, African Fashion International spokesperson: “The recent power cuts have made any movement in and around Joburg very challenging. We are concerned this may affect attendance at the Soweto collections and have therefore moved the shows to Sandton in consultation with the affected designers.”

Wednesday, 5 March, sees new-generation designers such as Frans Kies, Abigail Keats, Audrey Mokhari and Thembisile Mazibuko taking to the stage, followed by Siphakeme Ndlovu and MosewaMosa. Anchoring the evening will be Fassler, with Thesis and Machere hard on her heels.

On Thursday, 6 March, audiences can look forward to shows featuring Ifa Lethu and Karen Monk Klijnstra, followed by Viyella and after which Klûk CGdT and Sun Goddess will strut their stuff.

Mzansi Designers and Broken Storm open proceedings on Friday, 7 March, after which Prass, Jacobs and Tlale will set the catwalk alight with their respective shows.

Closing off Audi Joburg Fashion Week on Saturday, 8 March, will be Sindi, followed by JJ Schoeman. Stoned Cherrie gets the chance to dazzle at 8pm, with the Audi Collections Show bringing the event to a close in sexy style.

During a recent workshop, British fashion guru Avis Charles told local designers that most of the new ideas in the international fashion arena are inspired by Africa, and that the time is ripe for South African talent to make further inroads into the global fashion scene.

Audi Joburg Fashion Week promises to be an ideal platform for showcasing the best that South African designers have to offer. The event is operated by African Fashion International (AFI), which also runs Cape Town Fashion Week and the spring/summer Joburg Fashion Week.

Tickets for each show cost R100 and are available at Computicket.

How They Do That? (Funny Video)

How the hell do you do this...Check out this funny video.........

Magesh Walks Free

Seven years of stress, seven years of fear that he might be hanged or spend his rest of his life in prison came to a happy ending for kwaito star Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala.

Magesh was acquitted on Friday (29 Feb) Tshabalala after the magistrate said the police didn't do their investigation properly. Magesh's trial started on Wednesday (27 Feb) at the Village Magistrate Court in Gaborone, the investigating officer, Inspector Moses Serumota, gave a contradictory version of how the accident occurred, which prompted Magistrate Lot Moroka to ask him to submit the true version of events.

Tshabalala had been accused of causing the death of Botswana business woman Maria Monyatsi and South African Tumelo Desmond Monaisa due to his “dangerous driving”. The incident took place in Mogoditshane village near Gaborone on March 17 2001, when Tshabalala was alleged to have been driving - Bissau Gaobakwe's new silver BMW 330ci convertible, which had no number plates. Tshabalala's skull was cracked in the accident and he had to be flown to Johannesburg for medical attention. Monaisa, who was in the same car, died weeks later in a Johannesburg hospital.

Kebonye Tsiaka (39) a taxi driver from Ledumadumane, lost consciousness in the witness box while being cross-examined by defence counsel Colin Garvey.

Garvey had just asked Tsiaka to explain why he had joined the busy Willie Sebone main road while a red Ford Laser, driven by Monyatsi, was just 10m to 15m away. It was at this crucial moment that the defence started to punch holes in the state's case against Tshabalala.

According to reports, during the trial Gaobakwe, an important state witness, disappeared moments before he was to give evidence. Magistrate Lot Moroka issued a warrant for his arrest. Garvey, instructed by Advocate Billy Gundelfinger, and then grilled investigating officer Moses Serumola for his “shoddy work”.

This came after Serumola failed to mention during his evidence in chief that Gaobakwe also had disappeared from the scene of the accident. Serumola also failed to include Tsiaka's taxi in his sketch of the accident when recounting the events of the day. Garvey told the court that Gaobakwe was the driver and that he deliberately disappeared from the scene of the accident because he faced an attempted murder charge related to a shooting in 1999. In June of 2004 Gaobakwe was sentenced to spend a year in jail after being convicted on the shooting charge.

Two dead, Mandoza out of hospital after crash

Kwaito star Mandoza is recovering at home following a car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning, metro police said on Sunday.

Two people died and Mduduzi Tshabalala [Mandoza] was hospitalised after he crashed his DaimlerChrysler Crossfire into a VW Jetta along the N1 near the 14th Avenue offramp at about 1.23am.

"He hit it from the back, the Jetta lost control and overturned, trapping the two occupants inside and they died on the scene," said Superintendent Edna Mamonyane, Metro police spokesperson.

Mandoza sustained slight injuries and was taken to the Flora Clinic, where he was released later the same day.

Mamonyane said that a case of culpable homicide had been opened.

"We could not take blood tests to check for alcohol levels because the paramedics had already given him a drip," she said.

"He is not under arrest. Once the Metro police have completed their investigation the docket will be handed over to the SAPS."

The investigation continues. - Sapa
